May – Nestle’s Toll House Springtime Chocolate Chips

Nestle Toll House Springtime Chocolate Chips.

IMG_7414Many of us know that chocolate chips were invented by at Toll House by Ruth Graves Wakefield in 1936 when she break up a bar of semi sweet chocolate and added the bits to her butter drop cookie recipe. It became a popular dessert and soon Nestle contracted with her to print the recipe on their package. Toll House Inn was built in 1817 and was never a toll house. The Inn was destroyed in 1984 and wasn’t rebuilt, but if you travel there today, you will find a historical marker. That was probably one of the best moves that the company ever made since that recipe, even today, remains one of America’s favorites.
The Company has recently started to manufacture those little chips in various colors and flavors. For the winter holidays, they featured delicious wintergreen, white, and semi-sweet mixture, and now they are producing springtime chocolate chips.

Imagine decorating your cake or cookies with semi-sweet chocolate, pink, and yellow colored morsels. They add a fun “Welcome Spring” touch to any recipe. When I used these for our Chrysanthemum Bundt Cake, the cake just popped with energy. I expected that the pink and yellow morsels might have a specific flavor but they tasted more like a white chocolate. This would allow you to use them in any regular chocolate chip recipe.
