NASA “Taste of Space” Exhibition
Featuring Chef Amabarish Lulay of East End Grill, Lafayette, Indiana.

Last October, the “Taste of Space” event, which was held at Kennedy Space Center, offered an opportunity for the public to see rarely seen artwork from NASA’s archives and experience “Taste of Space” foods. They were celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 12 mission and hoped that this opportunity would inspire the next generation of space explorers.

Imagine Being Invited to Cook at the “Taste of Space” event at Kennedy Space Center right under the Saturn V!  That is exactly what happened to Executive Chef for East End Grill, Ambarish Lulay. He previously worked at Purdue’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and was the chef at Westwood, University President Mitch Daniels’ home on campus where important visitors were entertained. While his successful career has been peppered with many awards and accomplishments, he was so honored to be one of the chefs selected to participate in this event.

Wanting to learn more the “Taste of Space” event, we contacted Chef Lulay at the East End Grill and asked him to tell us about his experiences.

About the Recipe: One of our signature dishes at East End Grill, the shrimp and grits is a story of owner Scott Trzaskus’s professional journey in the American south. Scott worked in the Carolinas, Atlanta and Texas and was enamored by this dish in its various forms. We do a version of this with all the influences in a classic style. We have paired the dish today with wonderful Indiana products like Smoking Goose Tasso ham from Indianapolis, and Professor Torbert’s Orange Corn Grits developed right in our backyard on The Purdue University campus.
