Since our recipe flashbacks have been so popular, we decided to revisit one of our past April programs for each of the next 5 days.

April is a time for new beginnings and fresh starts whether it is working in the garden on Earth day, or eating a special Spring dinner with your family.

April 2023 – Nashville’s Culinary Spotlight, Pitmaster Pat Martin, BBQ sides, James Beard Award Chefs, Chefs in the Spotlight

Last year, we visited Nashville Tennessee to celebrate its special culinary favorites and flavors at a James Beard Award Dinner. We met some young successful chefs pushing the pushing the food envelope, developing unique and daring food. The tasting was delicious, and we didn’t miss out on the barbecue, or the Pitmasters making it.

This Bar-B-Que Broccoli Salad was the most viewed recipe from last April. It is a homage to the salad served by Chef Pat Martin and satisfies ‘til you can have the original.

April 2022 – Plating Meals Like a Pro, April Recipes, ESME Restaurant, Artist Inspired Recipes

In April 2022, we decided to learn more about how food professionals present their finished meals to their eaters. This process called “plating” makes the dishes more attractive and appealing. We visited with Chef Jenner Tomaska who is the Executive Director and Owner of Chicago’s Esme Restaurant to hear from an expert in this craft.

Petite Crudites with Peppadew Dill Dip is the most popular April 2022 recipe. It includes an assortment of petite crisp, raw veggies with a creamy dill, red pepper.

April 2021 – Comfort Food Around the World, Jenn Louis Cookbook Author, Healthier Recipes

In 2021, we explored the comfort of nostalgic foods from Fringy Fritters to Nigerian African Groundnut Stew. Comfort cuisine means different things to different people. We spoke with Jenn Louis, author of the “Chicken Soup Manifesto,” published in 2020, about arguably, the greatest comfort food – homemade chicken soup in all its iterations served all over the world.

Cold Steamed Vegetables with Georgian Walnut Sauce were one of the more popular recipes. This Georgian national dish of assorted cooked and fresh vegetables is a nice party platter,

April 2020 – Ivy Tech Culinary Arts, Global Food Tour, Culinary World Recipes

In 2020, we were fortunate enough to enjoy a virtual Global Food Tour at the Ivy Tech Culinary Arts Center in Indianapolis, IN shortly before the pandemic struck the Midwest. We talked with Jeff Bricker administrator of the program and visited with several of their enthusiastic students who presented tasty bites from the cuisines they were studying. We tried out recipes from Bohemian Pretzel Soup to Armenian Lavash too.

Raspberry Almond Breakfast Cakes were an Eastern European breakfast cake filled with goodness and a great combination with your morning tea or coffee.

April 2019 – Healthy Food on Every Table

In April 2019, we prepared some dishes that offered our Tastemakers a culinary surprise whether it was a Blushing Beet Hummus or Deviled Egg Pizza. We went to the GoodFoodExpo where we learned about local food entrepreneurs. We also visited Chicago’s Experimental Station, an incubator for community initiatives addressing accessibility to affordable and nutritious food where we talked with Connie Spreen, its Co-Founder.

Grandma’s Easy Pastry Kolacky was one of our most popular recipes. This family favorite is a pastry cookie with fresh buttery goodness and our fruit toppings.

April 2018 – Fermented Soy Sauce, Bourbon Barrel Foods, Healthier Recipes

In 2018, we explored the magic of soy sauce making with Matt Jamie of Bourbon Barrel Foods as our guide. After learning about the healthy advantages soy sauce could add to our food, we developed some recipes that made it the star.

 

Since our Creamy Guaca Hummus combines the idea of hummus and guacamole into one very creamy dish spiked with lime juice, it is easy to see why this vegan recipe stood out to our Tastemaker community. Surrounded by fresh raw veggies and served with baked pita chips, it might even serve as a healthy Spring starter.
